Know-Its: The Link To Reading

Mr. Know-It's Pre-Readiness: Alphabet Fun provides children an awareness of all letters, particularly the ones in their name. By exposing children to all uppercase and lowercase letters, children who are capable will start making connections to print. Later, in Beginning Sounds, each letter and sound will be taught in detail, but the purpose of Alphabet Fun is to increase print awareness. Singing, games, and manipulatives make matching uppercase and lowercase letters fun and easy to learn.

Writing your name is one of the most important things for a young child to learn. Mr. Know-It gives many opportunities for children to practice writing their names. By tracing letters in the big Write-On Book: Alphabet Fun and building letters out of clay, children get a sense of different letter shapes.

Children describe pictures from different themes (animals, plants, food, etc.) to increase vocabulary. Mr. Know-It's Write-On Book: Things along with the Class Activities and Picture Match Game give plenty of opportunities for children to use vocabulary words in meaningful activities.

Alphabet Fun also trains children to hear rhyming words. This phonological awareness sskill helps children recognise similarity in words and sounds, an important skill in searning to read. By introducing rhyming with the big Write-On Book: Zippity Zappity Zime, and then following up with individual manipulatives such as Rhyming Butterflies, children have fun while they learn.
