Know-Its: The Link To Reading

Know-Its and Beyond Stage I sets the foundation for reading development. The first ten lessons focus on readiness for reading. Next comes one of the most important skills for beginning readers to learn: blending phonemes. Miss Diane models this strategy with puppets on a teaching DVD. Through games, manipulatives, books, writing, and magnetic lapboard activities, students apply skills that are integrated in their reading.

Major concepts in Stage I include: short vowels, blending, segmenting phonemes, context clues, repeated reading, and structure analysis (word endings).
